On the arrest of Patrick Howarth

Statement from the Board
November 4, 2021

Fight Directors Canada has learned of the arrest of Past President Patrick Howarth on charges of sexual assault and sexual exploitation. FDC condemns all sexual violence. We are committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment for all members to be able to learn and work in. As an organization, we are following the investigation and will be meeting to discuss it. We thank our membership and colleagues for their patience while we address this.
If anyone has any information pertaining to the Edmonton Police Service’s investigation, they are encouraged to contact EPS at 780-423-4567, #377 from a mobile device, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Update
November 7, 2021

The Board has met to discuss the situation; we are waiting for more information to become available in order to determine our next steps. In respect and consideration for the ongoing Edmonton Police Service investigation, we would ask that any members who have information regarding the situation that they are comfortable coming forward with, to direct that information to the EPS at 780-423-4567, #377 from a mobile device, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. While we always want members to feel comfortable addressing their concerns internally, as this would be regarding an active investigation, it is important for the integrity of that process for information to be directed to EPS at this time.

We are, as always, looking into how to improve our Policies and Procedures—specifically for ways to ensure that our membership feels safe in reporting any future concerns that may arise. If you have concerns or suggestions regarding the current procedures and how to grow them in a way that makes the organization healthier, we would ask and encourage you to share these thoughts with the Board at board@fdc.ca.
